My FAC limits sec 1 shotgun use "only for practical target shooting over land which the holder has permission to shoot for that purpose with that class of firearm and may also be used for clay pigeon shooting". I've been wanting to open it up further for also shooting pigeons with. Anyone had any success with their constabulary to shoot pigeons with S1 shotgun? What does the condition say?

Mine just said Pest control when the law changed - I had two at the time sold 1 and then the other more recently and when I sent my FAC for a variation/alteration the facility was of course removed.

I have only just decided to have a semi again and expect Pest Control to be suficient for a FAC 1 shotgun as previously. I will request it be altered when the FAC is next sent to Police HQ - in the meantime I will of course not convert it.

I will keep the forum posted when I get it back but will probably leave it until Dec when it is due for renewal to save a variation fee.

It depends on how it is conditioned on your FAC.

My FAC only allowed use for Pest Control whereas others use theirs for target shooting and may, by the conditions, be confined to that use

If there are no confining conditions whatsoever in respect of that item then yes to Pigeons and anything else you have permission to shoot. But most FACs will condition each weapon or group of weapons to a specific purpose. If your condition says Pest Control for that particular item then Pigeons are an acceptable quarry as are many other species.

However the condition may confine you further by specifying particular species or even circumstances. eg It may allow Pest control but only over certain land at certain times of the day (daylight hours).

It could, if the Police so wished, say you must stand on one leg and shoot over your shoulder with a mirror - I bet you wouldn't get very big bags then but at least in that instance you would have justification for appeal as it would in effect not allow you to use the gun.

It appears that this link no longer works, so I have been trawling through the Home Office site to find another one. think this one will work.

As an update I have now received my FAC back with the Shotgun facility added and have permission to use it for Pest Control and Sporting Purposes as well as Destruction of Vermin and for Zeroing on Ranges. So it should cover most eventualities that I will want to use it for.
