FYI - 6 April 2007

The Home Office has confirmed today that the following sections of the Violent Crime Reduction Act will come into effect on 6 April:

Section 31 (3) – This section allows those selling airguns by way of trade or business to apply to register as a firearms dealer (RFD). The remainder of Section 31, which includes the restriction of air weapon sales to RFDs, will be introduced at a later date.

Section 35 – The sale and acquisition of cap type primers for metallic ammunition and metallic capped cases will be an offence unless the person selling or buying has authority e.g. they are a registered firearms dealer or hold a firearm certificate with the appropriate authority.

Section 30 which increases the minimum sentences for firearms offences also comes into effect on 6 April.

From memory this was not in then Violent Crime Reduction Act but is a different act that was discussed & passed a few weeks ago, again from memory if you passed on a firearm that you where minded to use then both the person in possession of the firearm and you would be equally accountable for the crime. I will see if I can find the relevant links to the act.
