The law is an ass.

I have just read the latest edition of Shooting Times about the tail docking ban in Wales. It is ok to dock working springers and cockers but not sprockers, also jack russells can be docked but patterdales cant!! Go figure.
Madness.

I am completely against docking I am afraid to have to say. Unneccessarily cosmetic, if badly done can leave the dog in pain for life and some people suspect it can upset the dogs balance. Leave it alone

"if badly done can leave the dog in pain for life" that is probably true but i am sure many will tell you of the pain and suffering their dogs have endured from having a badly cut up tail from brambles, gorse, whin etc etc.

Sadly you are right, if the wrong vertibrae in the tail is selected it will do just that. I don`t think it can be reasonably compared with putting a dog through Brambles etc.

There will always be differences of opinions Boresight as long as we respect each others point of view.

What evidence do you have to back up your views?

I have had docked breeds most of my life and have never know any one of them to have any problem what so ever and have yet to meet anyone who has.

I have met and known several people with undocked dogs that have had horrendous problems with tail damage.

What evidence do you have Gaffa?

Sworn statements backed up with names and addresses, photos, vets' reports etc? It is far easier to challenge others than prove your own case. I would be interested to see your "evidence".

Actually it was a documentary about RSPCA inspectors and recollections from my late grandmother who used to breed springers.

Oh God not the RSPCA inspectors!!!

They pull on the uniform after a few weeks basic training and everyone thinks that they actually know something.

What was your Grans kennel prefix?
