When you need to go you need to go!

I would be more shocked if it said she had used the mens toilet.

.... and there was the case of the Firearms Licensing Manager from Devon & Cornwall police who was found in a nightclub in Exmouth with a prohibited weapon - namely a pistol. There is a mandatory five-year minimum sentence for possession of such a gun.

What do you think his punishment was ?

Anybody know?

A letter home to his parents telling them he was a naughty boy?

I have just posted this on my blog and it fits with this subject very well.

http://www.glossover.co.uk/blog/default.asp?id=401

This is an interesting case, "A policewoman has admitted trying to kill her former lover when she shot him with her police issue handgun. "

I am glad that not all police officers have been tared with the same brush as this woman as we would have no armed police and all police firearms would have been revoked & destroyed because of the actions of a single individual, such an action would have been over the top and wrong and completely disproportionate.

It is a pity that the same rational logic was not applied just over 10 years ago.

As a caution is an admission of guilt and in this case a firearms offence this would be flagged up on any FAC / SGC application / renewal.

Just out of interest would this exclude him from firearms duty?

Ian

Ian,

He was the firearms LICENSING manager - a civilian who was not authorised to carry a police firearm, and most certainly not authorised to have a pistol whilst off duty in a nightclub....

Remember the MINIMUM sentence a court can give (except in really exceptional circumstances) is Five years - but then this didn't get to court. I wonder why ?

I was about to say that the situation you describe Mike is incredible. However, when it comes to the interpretation of firearms law, nothing is incredible. Did he keep his job?

David.

Nope,

He was either sacked or resigned - and loss of his job was (allegedly) one of the the reasons he was given a caution rather than being put before a court - which might have given him the minimum sentence of five years.
