Lightbulb Tighter gun laws come into force on Isle of Man

Tough new laws which aim to tighten the control of imitation guns in the Isle of Man have come into force.

The laws, part of the Criminal Justice and Police Act, will make it an offence to carry a firearm or imitation with the intent to cause fear of violence.

Anyone convicted of this could face up to ten years in prison, the Isle of Man government said.

It is also now an offence to carry an imitation firearm in public without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.

Sgt Terry Stephen said the new legislation would be a great help to the Manx police force, after a number of recent incidents involving young people who had BB guns in public and who were dealt with under public order laws.

I love new "tough" laws, it is almost as if the police have not had the powers to arrest, prosecute & jail people for carrying "...a firearm or imitation with the intent to cause fear of violence..." before because up until the beginning of next month (when the powers come into force) we have all be able to do this without breaking any of the other laws that are within the firearms acts that have been going through the law makers since the 1920's but I am sure that this one will stop all firearms related crime in it's tracks just as the others have done.

Sooner or later people will come to the thought that prohibition does not and has never work (see http://www.shootingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1224).
