Who's online - wistow

I know I am not alone in this.

Wistow, can I ask you, in the 'who's online' section - I VERY frequently see 'google spider' or 'guest' looking at either 'who's online' and user profile. I find that strange for casual visitors to want to do that. There are some personal details of more than a few people in there.

With the current illegal use of data and the access of the site open to all (such as anti's) is there any way you can make that facility only available to visible members? Perhaps with a log on you user cp showing who has looked at your details. I personally have not put up truthful personal details for this very reason.

Many thanks.

Can you stop these people Wistow?

Sorry to keep bringing this up.

I have made a point of sitting watching "who's online" whenever I'm in the room, since making the above post, there is one member who wishes to be invisible but 2 guests often at the same time who view "who's online" (that one's a bot appearing as "Google spider") and another views 'user profiles' for considerable lengths of time.

Is there no way you can make guest only able to view topics and NOT our personal details? I take care not to post real details, but many here are more trusting. My worry is that these guests may not have the better interests of the sport at heart.

People can view users profiles but everything in your users profile is editable by you, so you don't have to show anything you don't want to

If I banned this from guests, then search spiders would also be banned, so the site would have less pages indexed by the search engines, thus resulting in less visits and less member signups

Kind Regards,

Craig

Forgive me, but some sites I use, I have to sign in to access certain areas of the site as they are available to members only. I found these sites through searches. Perhaps it's the way the site is constructed?

Forums such as this are extremely configurable., The Admin user has the option to configure each section so its visibility, access, and posting rights can be set jointly or severally to public (anyone), registered users only, moderators, admin users or specific user groups.. These options need to be balanced against the need for enough visibility for the site to figure properly in relevant searches from the major search engines..
